MY FIRST SYMPOSIUM – THE EXPERIENCE, THE OUTCOME, AND WHAT TO EXPECT

Hello friends, today I’m here to tell you about my first symposium which was a huge success – many thanks to the speakers who did justice to the topic given them and also the listeners whose attendance are germane.

Firstly, let me intimate you with the definition of Symposium: It can be summarily defined as a meeting or conference for the discussion of some subject, especially a meeting at which several speakers talk on or discuss a topic before an audience.

Awesome is an understatement. I was excited to host this particular symposium. The topic of the symposium is 1 Day Symposium with Limb Difference Persona and Mum of Children with Limb Difference. It was in collaboration with UnlimitedTiara and had great speakers graced the event.

The event started at 2pm CTS and 6pm WAT; 44 audience were in attendance, trust me, it was fun-filled and impactful with the agenda that cut across the spectrum of the symposium.

Meet the speakers of the day

It was actually an event I wont forget in a hurry aside the fact being the first of its kind, the turn-out was encouraging.

Below are screenshots of the symposium;

CHALLENGES OF THE EVENT

It will be a big fat lie if I say there were no challenges. The success of this meeting won’t be appreciated without narrating the challenges encountered before and during the event.

Before the event, the major challenge is getting people to register for the event. Thanks to the ever-dynamic IT Technicians who gave their all to ensure people register for the event and giving a follow-up.

Another challenge was that after having 101 people who registered, only 44 were able to attend the virtual symposium that about 40% of the total registrant. Nevertheless, the turn out was encouraging.

On a final note on the challenge encountered during the event was the hacker who gained access to the conference. But we were able to put everything under control. Our technical crew were the best…

Oh, my bad!!! Have I mentioned that the event took place on Zoom? No thanks to Covid-19. Yet it gave us the opportunity to reach out to audience in different continents.

OUR SUCCESS STORY

Beyond my imagination, everyone was in attendance till the event was about to end. Wow!!! It gave me goosebumps that 44 people, I think it later reached 50 people, patiently waited till the end of 2 hours long symposium. It can only be God.

The reviews and feedbacks were all showers of encomium. Participants expressed their heartfelt joy for the symposium. Everyone’s expectation was surpassed including mine. It can only be better.

The technical crew did a fantastic job. Like I wish I can give them a million dollars. They gave their best and truly their best yielded the best result which is the success of the symposium. Great shoutout to Temitope 🤗🤗🤗 (The Administrator), Emmanuel (co-admin), Kate and my Mum ❤. I can’t thank them enough.

The speakers came back with a positive feedback and giving some improvement expected in future events.

THE TAKE HOME FROM THE EVENT

If there is anything at all to take home from the event, it will be the zeal and passions. Don’t be afraid to do it! You never can tell. I initially was skeptical about the success and turnout. Imagine if I had chickened out of organizing the event? Once you can conceive it, it is achievable.

We have reviewed the events and have concluded that we are going to deliver something bigger come September 23rd.
